We chuckled recently at a Facebook post by Milwaukee comedian Mario Robinson, in which he asked his father what he would do with a time machine and was answered: I would miss you.
While not exactly a time machine, you’ll get a bonus hour this weekend. Because Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, and you have to set your clocks back one hour. That’s why.
So sometime this weekend use that extra 60 minutes like the precious gift it is.
Here’s a suggestion: The Milwaukee Comedy Standup Showcase.
It’s at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at the Karma Bar & Lounge, 600 E. Ogden Ave., and is a production of the Milwaukee-based Caste of Killers Comedy Collective
From Facebook: “This comedian-run, independently-produced comedy show that started with a couple of funny guys and a microphone has grown into a full-fledged professional comedy extravaganza. The Caste of Killers showcase only the freshest and brightest comedy acts.”
Among the talent on display will be:
- Tom Grimm
- Liza Marie
- Chastity Washington

It’s time well spent.
As much as we evolve and move our lives ahead, there’s comfort in nostalgia. All the better, when you’re laughing too.
That’s the idea and experience behind the monthly Retro Comedy Night.
Besides seeing some fresh entertainment (This time it’s stand-up comedian LIza Marie.), audiences can reconnect with the familiarity of a bygone TV sitcom – as staged line-for-line by some of Milwaukee’s funniest actors.
Which show they’ll perform is a secret, which adds an element of surprise to the occasion.
The next Retro show is at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Arcade Theatre, 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., lower level. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. And it’s BYOB.
In my opinion, nutmeg is the spice of life.
Variety is not stuff to be sprinkled on food or blended in a batter. It’s another dimension.
Think of how flat your life would be if every hour of every day was exactly the same without change.
Sorry. Does that pretty much describe your existence?
Then add an hour of variety this Friday, Oct. 18, at the Variety Hour Happy Hour. It’s a one-hour show from Milwaukee Comedy, with a variety of entertainment, including live music, live sketch comedy, live interviews with living people, live games and live prize-giving.
It starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Arcade Theatre, the nucleus of the Underground Collaborative, which is located at 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., lower level.
This month, the Variety Hour Happy Hour features guest performers Liza Marie and Jessie Mahne.
Tickets are $10 in advance by clicking here, or $15 at the door – a door to another dimension.
